Canal Boat
Monday 14 May 2012 - Friday 18 May 2012

A very relaxing holiday on an extra large canal boat.  It is extremely safe and comfortable with all mod cons including central heating!  Under the expert care of our skipper, we shall travel on the inland waterways through the Trent and Soar valleys.  We shall meet alot of other people on their boats and there will be the opportunity to help with the locks (or sit back and watch), walk along the riverbank or just stop and have a BBQ.  We travel through villages with shops and there are many pleasant pubs and eating places beside the canal.  This is a lovely way to see the countryside and observe the abundant wildlife that is all around us on the waterways.

Bournemouth Seaside
Saturday 23 June 2012 - Saturday 30 June 2012

This is our third year in this lovely hotel.  Large and comfortable with heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools with poolside areas to relax on!  A short stroll through a wooded valley and tropical gardens takes us to a superb beach.  Bournemouth has seven miles of glorious sandy beaches all patrolled by lifeguards.  When not on the beach we shall explore the town with its excellent shops and visit the various attractions in the area.  We also intend to take in a show and visit the Oceanarium.  Driving into the lovely Dorset countryside there are the National Trust beaches and heaths of Studland.  Swanage, Corfe Castle and Brownsea Island are not far away.  Back at the hotel there is delicious food and entertainment every night.  This is an excellent hotel and location.

Derbyshire Peak District
Saturday 11 August 2012 - Saturday 18 August 2012

Staying in newly built accommodation near the village of Castleton, we shall be surrounded by the beautiful National Park.  This is walking and climbing country and for anyone who is interested, there will be the opportunity to go climbing with a qualified instructor on Stanage Edge, a four mile outcrop above Hathersage.  There are plenty of lovely walks and places to visit, plus heated open air swimming pool.  Other places we intend to visit are Hardwick Hall, home of Bess of Hardwick and Cresswell Crags, a limestone gorge honeycombed with caves containing archaeological evidence of people who lived there during the ice age 10,000 years ago.  The discovery of Britain's only known ice age rock art is also on show.  We will visit the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, supposedly the haunt of Robin Hood and visit Mr Shaws House, an award winning property in the care of the National Trust, where time has stood still since the 1920's.  A visit to a hill farm where they make their own delicious ice cream will definately be on the agenda as will a BBQ, ten pin bowling, cinema and lovely walks by the river and in the hills.

Bristol and North Somerset
Saturday 8 September 2012 - Saturday 15 September 2012

We shall be staying in a comfortable manor house in the countryside just outside Bristol.  The very busy itinerary will include some or all of the following, depending on time and people's preferences.  We shall explore the city of Bristol with its many shops and attractions plus a personal tour with Pirate Pete, an expert on the pirates of Bristol!  We shall go aboard Brunel's award winning ship the ss Great Britain, one of the most important historic ships of the world.  For animal lovers there is Bristol Zoo and not far away in the country, Longleat Safari Park.  We shall travel to the Cheddar Gorge and caves and see the cheddar cheese factory and have a cheese tasting session!  Wells Cathederal and Wookey Hole caves are not far away.  A visit to Bath will include the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey.  Walking in the lovely countryside we will visit Glastonbury Tor and have a picnic on Durdham Downs.  Evening visits to Bristol will include entertainment, meals out and a show at the the Hippodrome Theatre.

Travelling by rail and ferry we shall be staying in the heart of the city in a very comfortable hotel with a fitness suite (if you have the time and energy)!
Our week will be very busy with much to see.  Starting with a bus tour of the city we intend to visit the Guiness Storehouse, brilliant even if you don't like beer!  Trinity College, which houses one of the worlds most famous books, the beautifully illuminated 'Book of Kells', Dublin Castle, Phoenix Park, the National Wax Museum, and Dublin Zoo.  Group discussion will determine if there is anything else on this first visit they would like to see.  At nearby Temple Bars there will be plenty of shopping opportunities, entertainment and music.  We shall take a trip out to the surrounding countryside and to the coast.
